He was Sent by God to Accomplish His Work

“The disciples besought Jesus, saying, ‘Rabbi, eat.’ But he said to them, ‘I have food to eat of which you do not know. . . . . My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, `There are yet four months, then comes the harvest?’ I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see how the fields are already white for harvest. He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, `One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."

(John 4:32-38)

So, Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, "You know me, and you know where I come from? But I have not come of my own accord; he who sent me is true, and him you do not know. I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me." Later he taught, "I shall be with you a little longer, and then I go to him who sent me; you will seek me and you will not find me; where I am you cannot come." (John 7:28-29 and 33-34)

Jesus Came to Share the Truth He Heard from his Father

And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my sayings and does not keep them, I do not know him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me." (John 12:44-50)

Jesus said to the people, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he." They said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Even what I have told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him." (John 8:23-26)

Jesus told his disciples that, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (John 15:15-16)

Before he was arrested, Jesus prayed for his disciples and asked God: “Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you; for I have given them the words which you gave to me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you did send me.” (John 17:7-10)

Jesus was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee. “And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came unto him, and would have stayed him that he should not go from them. But he said unto them, ‘I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.’” (Luke 4:42-43)

Jesus told his disciples, “I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! From now on, five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided: father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:49-53)

After Jesus was arrested, Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." (John 18:37)
